Understand the CAT 2017 Exam Pattern
Total time allotted for CAT 2017 examination is about 3 hours or 180 Minutes. The exam is categorized into 3 separate sections. They are 1) VARC or verbal and written comprehension round, 2) DI & LR or Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning round and 3) QA or Quantitative Ability round.
Each section is allotted 1 hour time to complete. Students cannot pick the order of answering as per their wish, which means they have to answer one after another as per the flow stated above. DI & LR has 32 questions, some of which are on MCQ type, for answering them students are provided separate space. Whereas, both QA and VARC sections consist of 34 questions each. Each question carries 3 marks. Any wrong answer leads to negative marking. For each incorrect answer 1 point gets deducted.

Know the CAT 2017 Scoring System
Candidates are tested on different skills in each section; hence scores or percentage obtained in each section are ranked separately. However, the sum of total scores determines the final overall ranking in CAT 2017.
When there is no substitute for reading, listening, speaking and writing to practice for the VARC section, it is advised to sharpen one’s skill in Math, by spending a considerable amount of time in solving the sample test papers daily with a clock by side, which would help them in managing time effectively.
